Life After the Fight

Life After the Fight is an interactive business directory for breast cancer survivors in the professional world. Using the Life After the Fight Facebook page, anyone can submit their business or service to be part of the webpage directory listing to provide local people with reputable business resources. While there are many support groups and organizations to help women through breast cancer, there are a limited number that focuses on survivors’ lives after the fight.

After many years of experience working with breast reconstruction patients, Atlanta cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgeon Dr. Whiteman noticed many women’s breast cancer journeys inspired them to strengthen their professional lives and pursue careers or businesses that truly made them happy. For one patient, it was a yoga studio, for another, a florist shop. While battling breast cancer, many women gain a new perspective on life and often reevaluate their goals. Life After the Fight connects these professionals throughout the Atlanta community.

The Life After the Fight Facebook page provides an interactive forum for business listings, survivors’ news and updates, and discussions. If you are a breast cancer survivor, or would like to submit a business on behalf of a survivor, you can either post on the Facebook page’s wall or submit an email to lifeafterthefight@gmail.com with the following information:

-Name of your business/service
-A short description of your services
-Business phone number, email, and website

These businesses are built from the strength of the survivors who create them. With Life After the Fight, family, friends and fellow Atlantans can better support survivors as they carry on with their lives after breast cancer. Life After the Fight is committed to supporting and promoting the professional ventures of breast cancer survivors.

The Sport of Giving

The Sport of Giving 501(c)(3) is a grassroots effort to support women’s cancer care and prevention in the community through special fundraising events. These fundraising events offer a platform to raise awareness and support for those impacted by cancer. This nonprofit organization hosts sporting events from VolleyFest tennis tournaments and SwingFest golf tournaments, to a 5k RunFest. They also host non-sporting, creative fundraisers such as fashion shows, wine tastings, and silent auctions.

With a large part of his practice focused on breast reconstruction surgery, Dr. Whiteman serves as the Medical Director of The Sport of Giving: encouraging clubs and neighborhoods to rally together and support the battle against cancer. Recently, The Sport of Giving expanded its efforts nationally to help volunteers outside of Georgia organize fundraising events in their communities. To date, The Sport of Giving has raised over $1.3 million to support mammography research, digital technology, screening centers, and breast cancer handbooks.

To get involved as a sponsor or to host an event of your own, you can request an event kit or make a donation through their website. The Sport of Giving’s mission is for every woman in every community to have access to the very best cancer care and support services and to make cancer awareness a way of life.
